Baby's First Picture!!

The little bean is so tiny, (s)he was not visible with the pelvic ultrasound so the tech had to do a vaginal ultrasound. We saw and heard his/her little heart beating. According to "The Bean's" size, I am exactly six weeks.

We can't wait to see the little one again in a few weeks. =)

A Day to Celebrate

Today is quite a special Day:

Blogdaddy Babalu turns three! Congratulations, Tio. Thank you for creating your wonderful blog, and showing the world the truth about Cuba.

Today is also my grandparents' wedding anniversary. I think it's year 51, 52, 53, 54. Either way, I hope I have as long-lasting and wonderful a marriage as theirs.

Today is also my friend's daughter Nicole's 4th birthday. Nicole's mom and I have been friends since...well...for as long as I can remember. Her family lived next door to my grandparents for many, many years. We grew up together, and it is an amazing thing that our kids are doing the same. We live 8 blocks away from each other, in the same community, so we are always visiting each other and hanging out. Nicole is one of Brandon's dearest friends. Happy birthday, Nicole!!

Have a great Wednesday, everyone!

TGI...T?

How's everybody doin'? I want to thank everyone that commented on our Father's Day post and the exciting news surrounding our household these days. So far, as you can see by the very cute baby ticker I added two nights ago, I am five weeks and five days along. I feel fine, no morning sickness (and I hope it stays that way-knock on wood), just a bit more tired than usual. I'm having an ultrasound on Thursday morning. I saw my doctor on Friday and everything is normal, but I mentioned I had a bit of cramping the day I took the home pregnancy test, and he'd just like to check things out and make sure this little "frijol" is growing as she should Yes, she. We are hoping for a she. So please send girl vibes this way. If we have another boy, it's a blessing just the same...but a girl would be nice. So I will try, if it the little bean is clearly visible, to scan the ultrasound images and post our baby's first picture! =)
In other news, today was my last day at the department I've worked at for the last 11, almost 12 years. I wasn't as sad as I thought I would be, perhaps because I am so anxious about what is to come. Not to say I won't miss my coworkers, some of which I've known for as long as I was there. Thing is, I'm in the same building, two floors up. I'll still be using the same elevators, the same parking garage, the same little quicky-mart downstairs for lunch...the only thing changing is my physical location. I'm sure I'll still see my work buddies regularly, we just won't get on each other's nerves as often ;-).
As for my new position, it is somewhat similar to what I used to do, but more towards the fiscal side of things, with reports, spreadsheets and what-not involved. Things I've only had minimal contact with in the past. So we'll see how it goes. I'm sure I'll do fine, but I can't help but worry just a bit...I start on Friday, so I'll give a bit of an update sometime next week once I'm in the swing of things.
As for our favorite pre-schooler, he had an absolutely fabulous, fun-filled weekend. Saturday morning he and his friend Emilie met their very first celebrity. Emilie's mom and I took the kids to Barnes and Noble for storytime, and they met Peter Rabbit. They were very amused by this mischevious bunny, and were completely fascinated with his story. Afterwards, we went to Dandy Bear, which is a local kiddie place, sort of a low-end Chuck E Cheese. It has a much smaller video game area, but much bigger tunnels and ballpits and such. The kids had a blast in there, releasing all the energy they built up during the quiet time at the bookstore.
Well, that's it for now. We may be visiting his friends the dolphins and whales tomorrow, weather permitting, so I need to put the little one to bed now. Good night!

So...what happens next?? (UPDATED)

Did you ever watch a movie and think, "I wonder what happens after...."?? Well, Brandon's Puppy friend and Babalu contributor Henry the Conductor used his created juices to think up what could be the sequel to "The Lost City". Henry shows us what life may have been like for Fico once he began his new life in exile, and I must say, the story is GREAT!! I am eagerly awaiting the next chapter.
Here you can find the introduction, explaining how he got this idea, and Chapter 1.
Chapter 2 is here, and the latest installment, Chapter 3 is here.

Please go read it...Henry threatened me that he won't post Chapter 4 until I linked to him so....GO. READ. NOW!!!

(cross-posted at Babalu...maybe, since I linked twice, Conductor will post two chapters soon?? *wink, wink, nudge, nudge*)

UPDATED: As promised, Henry posted Chapter 4. The story just gets better and better....

14 Crazy Days and One Cool Gig

Hi, everyone. After two very long weeks, I'm back. It's been a little crazy around here. After Cuba Nostalgia, I started a Summer mini-mester, which put most of the rest of my life at a stand-still. Memorial Day weekend was a breath of fresh air amidst all the chaos, when we visited our friends Lisa and Damian, who are expecting a baby boy in a couple of months. We hung out for a while by the pool, and later had a BBQ. This gathering was a real treat because all of the members of our circle of friends, with the exception of my friend Claudia's husband and Eric (who were both working) were gathered together, something we hadn't done since last Christmas. Here are the guys playing with the big kids in the pool as us girls were pool-side with the babies. The kids had a great time, and it was a wonderful break between my two hectic weeks.

Tuesday was back to the crazy routine again for a couple of days, and then Thursday came around, which I'll elaborate on in a few moments. Friday was another break, and the day the Miami Heat won their first Eastern Conference (GO HEAT!!!). Today was the last session of the class, an all day affair starting at 9AM and ending at just a bit past 4PM. But that's it, just have to do a paper and take home final for this one, submit it by email, and I've got another course under my belt. Five left and I'll have my Bachelors degree in hand!

Thursday was just awesome! "El Pitbull" (that would be George, contributor to Babalublog) and I, who happened to be in the class I was attending, went to see Rhett y Los Borrachos Empeņados. Have I mentioned I love this band?! Just checking...=)
Anyway, so we saw the band at a great place called Transit Lounge a relatively new bar in Downtown Miami. We got there about half an hour before the show started, and we were chatting away with some of the band members and their manager before the show. I have to mention here these are the sweetest, most laidback, down-to-earth guys I've met. I have been keeping in touch with the band through MySpace since their show at Cuba Nostalgia, and they all very sweetly gave me a hug and we talked on and on like old friends. They get major brownie points from this fan for that. =)
Guitarist Tony M., who bares a striking resemblance to a certain guitar god by the name of Sir James Patrick Page, had specifically asked me to bring him a "Che? Still Dead!" shirt to wear during the performance. George and I gladly obliged, and Tony proudly rocked with his "Che? Still Dead!" shirt.
We stayed for two of their three sets. They played mostly in English, and a few songs in Spanish as well. Two of those songs, "Morena" and "El Gallo", are slated to be on their second album, and believe me: THEY WILL BE HITS! For those that haven't heard them, my friend Angie says they sound like a "Cuban/retro Black Crowes". I think she got it just about right. So keep an eye out for these guys, they are HOT! And I'm not just saying that because there are no other Cuban-American Rock Bands out there, though that is a plus. They'll totally dominate that market, and any other one that crosses their path.

Love ya, RYLBE!!

resurfacing

Just a quick note to let you all know I am still alive. I am attending a mini-mester at school. The class meets just about every week day for two weeks, so when I'm not at work, I'm at school, or home sleeping.
I'll be going to Transit Lounge tonight to see Rhett y Los Borrachos Empeņados tonight after class. Pictures may be posted tomorrow, if not, over the weekend. Things should return to normal after Saturday.
*HUGS*
