You know how there are certain things that affect you, even if you’ve never been exposed to them first-hand? Alzeheimer’s does that to me. I don’t think I’ve known anyone who’s suffered from Alzeheimer’s, but I can tell you it’s been featured on some of my favorite shows and movies: Jerry’s wife had it in Rescue Me, Meredith’s mom had it on Grey’s Anatomy, and of course, Allie had it in The Notebook. I felt kind of shallow bringing up something I’ve only been exposed to through the screen, so I decided to do a bit or research about Alzheimer's. Did you know that tomorrow is World Alzheimer’s Day? Yeah, I just found this out.
I’ve been reading a lot about it, and an easy way to raise funds for and awareness about Alzheimer’s is to throw a Purple Party. It’s a pretty cool idea, actually. There are a bunch of great party planning tips and ideas in the Alzheimer’s Association website. And, by registering your party, you can create a webpage for your event with all the pertinent specifics, you can email guests reminders about the party, and even accept donations.
Even if you can't throw a party right now, keep in mind that any donations made during the month of September are matched dollar-for-dollar by the Harrah's Foundation. That's a pretty cool thing in my book!
Anyway, consider this my good deed for the day: Showing you all how you can do something for a great charity while having fun. I mean, really, who doesn't love a good party? Throwing it for a good cause is just icing on the cake!
Good to know since this runs in my family.
