Brandon completely shocked us last night when he "read" a Target receipt coupon (you know, the ones that print after your receipt). The coupon says, "$1 off Target Brand dishwasher detergent etc etc...". He pointed to the word "Brand" and said to us, "look, it's almost my name!" Then I asked him, "Can you read the word next to it?", and he said no, but I told him, "What does it say here?" and pointed to the Target logo on the bottom of the receipt, which he recognizes. He said "Target", so I showed him the middle part again and asked him, "so what do you think it says here?" and he looked at the bottom of the receipt again, looked back up, and said, "Target!" He realized it was the same letters. I told him, "You're almost reading!" and he was beaming, jumping up and down with happiness. The kid loves books, and I know he'll love to be able to read his stories on his own.
