I'm so glad we decided to (aka are forced to) just buy presents for the kids this year. It helps me fight the temptation to buy the gifts for my loved ones that I can’t afford. For example, I saw a pair of very nice Nike golf shoes at the mall the other day, on sale no less, but I was not at all tempted to buy them for my great-uncle, the weekly golf player, since we are not buying for adults. Now I just have to work on fighting temptation when it comes to my two little guys. It’s very hard to pass up the great deals I’ve come across, and I end up justifying every one of them. My two recent favorite excuses: “Matty only has three presents and Brandon has five”, or “I’ll save it for their birthdays. It’s not smart to pay full price next month when I can save money now.” I’m sure I’ll regret it when the bills come next month, but for now, I’ll stick to the theory that I’m saving money by spending money. ;-)
