I didn’t mention this earlier so as to not jinx it, but hubby had a job interview with the public school bus system this past Tuesday. I think I’ve mentioned before that he has been studying to get his commercial driver’s license. Well, he was hoping to be able to train and get his commercial driver’s license through them. If he liked the job, then he’d stay, but if not, then he’d have gotten the license out of it and could apply somewhere else later on. The interview went well and he was offered the job, but there are several hoops and hurdles to go through just to get a position with benefits, and they do not provide on the job training. Instead, he would be sent to a class for 3 hours a day for two weeks where they would basically provide study time for the CDL. They would not provide actual training with vehicles, or administer the test. Oh, and the two weeks are not paid, yet he’d already be employed by them. In other words, he wouldn’t be getting paid for studying he can do at home. We really can’t afford that, and this along with a few of other reasons led him to not accept the job.
For now I told him he should just continue studying on his own. His only real study-time is on the weekends, since he lacks the mindset for studying after his 12-hour shift on weekdays. He’s been at this for a while, and I mentioned to him that there are a few sites online that might facilitate the process. We’re going to look into www.idrivetrucks.com. From what I’ve seen on their site, they provide learning materials in various forms, (reading, videos, audio commentaries, and interactive quizzes) which should prove helpful and he can finally take the test. I know he’s as eager to get this out of the way as I was to finally finish my degree, and once this is done, it’s one more step towards our financial stability.
